Posting & You
Confused about how to post/format new entries on our comms?
Not everyone is used to the way Dreamwidth comms are set up, and ours is split into 3 in-character parts, so we've included a little tutorial below with the bare basics - it's a lot simpler than it seems, and no one will be angry at you for not getting it right first time!
heyfreemagic
This is the "action" comm, for casual back-and-forths between any number of characters. We're keen on the idea of encouraging casual shortform meet-ups, and this is the place to do that.
Shortform RP is possibly the most common type used on Dreamwidth, and it usually looks like this:

As you can see, brackets indicate an action, and raw text indicates in-character speech. That's pretty much the gist of it.

WHAT IT'S FOR
This is the "network" comm, for posts made in-character with the eyeglass communicator.
A more in-depth rundown of the post types can be found in that communications post, but essentially, there are three types of post: text, video, and audio. Remember to mark your posts and replies accordingly so that people know what kind of post your character is making on the network. If your characters agree to meet up, take things over to the shortform or logs comm.
hfm_logs
WHAT IT'S FOR
This is the "logs" comm, for those action scenes that require a little more description. If you think you'll be writing a lot in each post, or you feel more comfortable doing a roleplay in paragraph style, this is the place to do it. Please remember to put the summary information on your log posts! There's a handy copy-paste version in the box below.
You can also use the Warnings section for any other comm if your post requires a warning. Use discretion.
HOW TO TAG
All entries you make should have tags for any/all characters that get involved in a post, including yours. You can add tags later when others leave comments on your entry. Mods will try to stay on top of this in addition, but you can make it a lot easier for us by tagging characters yourself!
If your character isn't on the tag list, message any of the mods (or this mod journal) and we'll add the tag for you so you can get right ahead to using it.
There is also an *npc tag. We advise you not to use this - you don't need to tag for mentions of random bystander NPCs, and if any of the official NPC journals do get involved with your post, a mod will add the tag for you.
We also have *open and *closed tags, which you can use to indicate whether others are free to jump in on your post or if it's for a specific plot you had with another player. We do request that you try to make more open posts than closed ones, as this helps with general mingling - even if you're shy, you'll likely find yourself pleasantly surprised!
We hope this clears things up! If you're still confused, or need any help, leave us a message or comment on this entry and we'll do our best to answer as soon as possible.
