Lux Spire
Built from something similar to sandstone and situated right in the centre of the city, Lux Spire looks far older than the rest of the city - and yet it's the tallest building, towering over even the high-rise apartment blocks around it. The tower itself is built as though whoever designed it only had one goal in mind: build as high as possible. Most floors are empty except for stone benches looking out over the city, and there are no walls between the four huge support pillars - just stone arches and open space. For this reason, the locals don't climb it, but they have no qualms with you mysterious magical interlopers doing what you want up there despite the obvious safety hazard.

The stairs spiral upwards around the inside of the building, wide enough to admit a giant. On the top floor, there's a serene rooftop garden filled with flowers and ferns and other assorted exotic greenery. In the middle of it is an ornate marble fountain. Dunking a shadowed character in the water there seems to turn them back to normal, which suggests there's more to this garden than meets the eye.

Park
Freesia Park is perhaps best known for the pretty little rotunda in the middle of the lake, but the rest of the park is just as lovely. There are trees and bushes scattered about, neat pathways, and benches. It's a surprisingly large area of greenery, considering the city's size.

Cathedral
This building looks a lot newer than Lux Spire, but it's still quite a bit older than most of the city. It's decorated with a lot of light-based motifs but no books or other information about what it was built for. The locals tend to ignore it, and don't have much information for you on what you're supposed to worship in there. The front doors open out onto the park, and these along with the high arched ceilings are big enough to accommodate even the largest of the city's residents - if they stoop. In mornings and evenings, the stained glass makes a stunning pattern on the stone floor.

Library
A well-kept building on the outside, and designed beautifully, the library will disappoint you. There's basic information on almost everything you could possibly need - except magic and history. At least, the history books exist, but it's as though someone has gone through every book that might tell you something useful about the city's mysteries and dunked them in black ichor. They're unpleasant to handle, and impossible to read. The rest of the books are largely untouched, and might be useful for anyone hoping to learn a new hobby or browse the fiction section.

Clock Tower
A small building that houses a bell. It rings every hour, on the hour, and the pleasant chime can be heard from anywhere in the city if you're outdoors.

College
The college is a combination university and school for the entire city. Its class sizes are small due to the low local population, and teachers are pretty lax - you could probably show up for whichever classes you liked and not be noticed.

Hospital
The Golden Heart hospital has seen better days. Doctors are moody and not very talkative, spending most of their time sulking, but they'll patch people up as best they can. Honestly, you might be better off finding someone to heal you magically. It's far more efficient, and you're marginally less likely to be glared at. The doctors here mostly treat the locals.

Gym & Activity Centre
Bored? Unstimulated? Dying to do one last rep? The gym has everything from weightlifting to treadmills to an indoor ski slope. You can also borrow/rent kayaks or swimming gear to use in the river, which is surprisingly clean.

Garden Centre
The place to be if you like plants. You can buy all sorts here, and the whole thing is reminiscent of a big greenhouse. Whatever kind of plant or seed you're looking for, you'll probably find it here.

Mall
One of those modern, everything-inclusive sort of places. Prices are reasonable, and you can probably find whatever you're looking for.

Police Station
Also serves as a jail, not that the bare skeleton staff can keep magical interlopers in there for long against their will. The officers are at least a little more friendly and helpful than the rest of the city, but that may be because it's in their job description. Police are fairly reluctant to try and arrest anyone with potent magical powers, but that doesn't mean they won't try if you're seen breaking a law. They will usually look the other way for anything on the 'petty theft' tier or lower, most likely because everyone is wary of magical backlash.

Commercial District
You'll find everything from coffee to jewellery to expensive couture. It's pretty high-end here - either you get a job, hippie, or you resort to other means of acquiring the items stocked in these places.

High Rise Apartments
The staple of Lux City, it almost seems as though most of these unoccupied buildings were simply built to be smashed to bits. They're quite nice, though, and entirely livable. Most have sweeping views of the city and all of them are fully-furnished, as if waiting for residents that don't yet exist. Even the kitchens are stocked, though it's impossible to tell who or what keeps them that way considering you could empty the fridge, turn away, then check back to find them full again. Someone, or something, wants the new residents of this city to be comfortable. No one seems to be staffing any of the buildings, but any local will tell you they're free-for-all.

Slums
Nowhere near as tall as the other buildings in Freesia City, the slum district is quieter, more out of the way, and not as well-kept as anywhere else. You won't be bothered as much, but you may want to give the place a clean before you sleep here. These buildings are furnished, barely, and wires hang overhead and between buildings with little regard for health and safety concerns. At least there's running water, though it'll take a while to heat up.
Residents: [personal profile] exuviiated (Aaron Barnett) in an apartment building, distinguished from the rest by a houseplant resting outside; apartment number is 37847.

Warehouse District
These warehouses are huge, and mostly empty. There are shelves, crates, boxes and the like, mostly scattered with miscellaneous machine parts from everything from tractors to computers. There's a lot of space, and a lot of junk, but not much to look at.

Carnival
The Glitter Carnival lies mostly abandoned as the scarce population left it alone in favour of more important parts of the city, but the rides are mostly still in working order. Provided you don't mind strapping yourself into something that hasn't been safety tested in a while, you could probably still have an enjoyable day out here. There's a ferris wheel, a haunted house ride, a few rollercoasters, test-your-strength attractions, and all the good stuff. There are also snack stalls, which are stocked but not manned. Most of the food is slightly past its sell-by date, but still probably edible. Maybe.

Observatory
The city observatory is all locked up and left to gather dust, but it should prove fairly easy to break the locks and explore it. The ceiling mechanism in the main room still works, as does the telescope there. There's also a large mobile map of an unfamiliar solar system - one that seems to change completely to a different one every time you explore it. Aside from the night sky there's not much to see except unreadable constellation charts all smeared with black ichor. This place isn't much use to anyone, but it's kind of pretty, and usually quiet.
Residents: [personal profile] mechanacet (Daniel Uscarte), easily identified as his current workshop by the big hoist outside with the skeleton of a robotic centaur being assembled on it.

Café
The Riverside Café is small, quaint, and a little reminiscent of a 50s diner. It's staffed by a different person every time you walk in, none of whom are particularly friendly, but it's a nice little place, all things considered. It's a good place to come for tea, coffee, a light lunch, or just to be alone and think in peace.

Museum & Art Gallery
This is perhaps one of the most puzzling places in the city. Surely once upon a time this place was filled with exhibits relevant to this world and this city, but now the exhibits are from all over the dimensions. You might find a little piece of your own world here, if you care to look. The place updates regularly, showcasing pieces of history and art from almost every world the city's magical new arrivals hail from - and nothing from this world. Go figure.

Farm
There's an unnamed farm on the western outskirts of Freesia City, and you can find all kinds of vegetables and fruit orchards here. The buildings (a farmhouse and a barn) lie empty, but the crops are thriving regardless.

Mine
An old strip mine lies in disuse, the cut-away ground making a patterned dip in the landscape. At first glance, it may seem unsightly, but a little poking around may reveal valuable minerals - some of which may be native to your home, wherever that is. More proof that this land provides for its newcomers, even if the local citizens aren't keen.

Empty Lot
This is a wide expanse of land that's mostly just cracked concrete and grassy patches. Ideal for battles, not so much for romantic meetings. Unless you're into discarded cans and crumbling bits of brick.

Subways
There's a sprawling network of underground train tunnels underneath Freesia City, and a handful of access steps dotted around the city. This might be useful, if the trains ever ran - but now they lie abandoned in their tunnels, and it's a good thing, too. Perhaps due to the darkness down there, the subways have become permanently infested with the same shadowy monsters that keep pouring out onto the streets above. Nox has the subways, and though it's possible to navigate them, it's also very likely that you'll become horribly lost. Nox's influence seems to have made some areas of the subway system somewhat non-euclidean.

Not all of the subways are corrupted, but about half of it is - and the corruption moves restlessly around, so a map you draw of it one day may be completely useless the next. The city's plague, it seems, has already taken hold.

ACCOMMODATION

While they're stuck in Freesia City, your character may decide to settle down and call a particular place home, decorating their pad as they see fit or perhaps inviting another to live with them. Or, they may choose to wander around and never stay in one place for too long.

Whatever the case, you can feel free to leave a comment or PM a mod as you see fit, and we'll add your character to the housing list (or update it for you). This will make it easier for other players and characters to track yours down, though of course they may not always be at home.
